The Redwoods

Just south and north of Eureka are redwood forests. These trees are simply massive, there is no other way to describe them

Now that's a pretty impressive root ball.

This one was even a little bigger.

Trying to snap a top photo with the 'macro' function.

Now that is a tall tree. 100 metres or more to the top.

The kids (all of them) had a great time exploring the forest.

This bad boy fell across the road, that's one big chain saw needed to clean that mess up.

Lunch was at the 'Living Treehouse. This photo was taken from inside a living tree.

You guessed it. This ones call the Big Tree. Quite original don't you think.

The kids were more excited by the squirrels and blue jays.

Another really tall tree.

The roots of this one provided a hole big enough to climb through, so we did......

Next was a cable car up in the tree tops. A fantastic thing to do (once).

You got a great all-round view from the platform at the top.

The Cathedral Trees. Apparently six to ten couples a year get married here.

Yet another forest critter that excited the kids. Take a photo Daddy.......

We struck the jackpot here and saw a mother and calf elk. The kids were 'kind of' quite' for long enough to get some photos.

About as close as you need to get to a bear.

Carved from one piece of wood, very impressive.

A very cool mountain lion rug.

Did you know that Grizzly Bears and Polar Bears are pretty much the same and often inter-breed. Well now you do.

It was 'rutting' season so we were really lucky to see some wild elk during our visit.

On the drive back to the hotel one day we had to stop to let a herd of wild elk cross the wild. Very cool.

With the car packed up once again we headed south down to San Francisco. The redwood forests pretty much extend all the way from Eureka to San Francisco. Guess what this one was called? Bet you can't...... The Drive Through Tree - wouldn't have picked that would ya.

I don't think I've ever seen a cooler tree house.
