After the Northwest Trek we piled back in the car and headed up to Mount Rainier. We were tourists and did tourist things, it's what you do.
Indi took a 'time out' after all the walking at the Northwest Trek.
The views out the window as we drove up to the base camp were amazing. Not so amazing for a three year old I guess.
It was the first time the kids had ever seen snow. We had been talking about snow with the kids for the six months leading up to the trip so they were pretty chuffed.
And so it begins.....
Yep I'd be running Jaxon. RUN BOY RUN.
'Here Daddy, here's a snowball for you to throw at Jaxon'. Good girl Indi.
I said RUN BOY RUN.
Okay - Give me your best shot.
After our mini snowball fight we took a walk for about a mile up the mountain. This building is the Paradise Inn, build by hand and without a single nail. Every joint was carved to fit as required. Very impressive workmanship. We had dinner inside after our little trek.
I told you there would be heaps of family photos.....
Nic loved it. 'No we are not moving to Canberra any time soon'.
It was coming to the end of the American summer so the snow was melting away. This entire place will be under four-six feet of snow in four months. The sun was out while we were there and it was actually pretty warm during the day.
Melting snow makes for a pretty good waterfall.
Simply stunning scenery.
This little fella is a 'marmot'. There you go - you needed to know that.
Like I said it was warm during the day, not so much after dinner. Nicola 'mother of the year' Campbell stole her daughters 'dora beanie' to get warm.
The drive home was way less stressful than the drive out, even if we didn't get back to the hotel until 1000pm. Lucky we were going on the Disney Cruise the next day, nothing like Mickey Mouse to get the kids out of bed and ready.
