It was a long drive from Southern Lake Tahoe to Eureka, long in distance which was made even longer by the scenic (mountainous) route that we decided to take. The views made it worthwhile but it was had going. About 14 hours door to door.
Most days on the holiday they beat us out of bed, it was nice to occasionally wake up normally, ie not with a story book jammed in your face.
See: he can sit still and be quiet every now and again.......
I'm not sure how Nic came across this but as luck would have it (tongue very much in cheek) we were able to watch the annual Eureka Mutt Strut. SO glad we didn't miss it......
Why! is the only thing I could think.
Like most public gatherings in America there were lots of high fives and hollering. Woop Woop, yeah right.
They are very patriotic I'll give them that. Australia would do well to take some of that on board.
After we escaped the Mutt Strut we had a look around town. It's definately worth a day or two if you make it over that way.
I didn't see this move all day, ready and waiting though.
A lot of 'Victorian' style homes and shop fronts.
The hotel we stayed in had a complimentary limo. Now your talking.
Yet another first for Jaxon and Indi. Spoilt these monkeys are....
The William Carson Mansion built out of local redwood place woods from the Phillipines, India and Mexico. When the US Government stopped logging for a year in the early 1900s the owner of one company kept all his employees busy by getting them to build this place.
Due to the daily 'out-and-about-cram as much in as you can' nature of the our holiday dinners were often way later than usual. The kids did really well and we always had plenty to laugh about.
Indi (aka The Muffin) is at the 'poking faces' stage.
After living on Pohnpei you'd think we were sick of sashimi. Not a chance......
