24-27 Jan - On the water

Life in Pohnpei is definately what you make it. It rains a lot (second wettest place on earth), so if you waited for the rain to stop you'd never leave the house. We try to get out as much as we can, and try not let the rain prevent us from completing planned activities. One day after work we took the kids to Nett (pronounced 'netch') Point for a swim. There are no beaches on Pohnpei, just mangroves and rocks. Fortunately they have got a couple of man-made ones, small but they do the job.

Scott was out snorkelling with Jaxon and got the fright of his life with he felt a hand on his arm.
To his surprise Indianna had left the safety of the 'feet touching the bottom bit' and swam out to him. She hasn't looked back since. Not bad for just having turned three.

The family that plays together.....

Nic trying out some different modes on the new camera.

" Look Daddy a shell." Scott has been collecting shells since he got here and the kids are only too keen to try and add to the collection.

Another perfect 28 degree sunset in Pohnpei.

Our first winter in Perth is going to kill us. The kids complain when getting out of 29 degree water to 28 degree air.....

Just be we left Nic and I decided to tick off a 'to-do item' and paddle around Sokez Island. As luck (or lack of it) would have it there is a right way and wrong direction to paddle. We were confident we picked the right one. Guess what.....

WRONG. It was perfect, windless conditions until we turned the second last corner. Funniest Home Videos sort of stuff. 30 knots of wind and nearly two foot of swell. Not fun!!!! I paddled in one spot for about three minutes and made less that 10 metres. We then headed in a little closer and got out and pulled the kayaks through the shallows. With no shoes this was equally not fun.

I did manage one good shot of Nic as we went under Sokez Rock. Two good things came out of the day: 1. This photo 2. We know which direct to take next time.

We never made it all the around. We were already late for picking the kids up from school (parents of the year) and we had to get off and hail a truck to give me a lift to our car. I then raced back to get Nic, pack in the skis and then go and pick up the kids. Who consequently were being looked after by five teachers waiting to go home...... Oh well, it could have been worse (somehow).
