Pakin Atoll Fishing Trip

Wednesday saw the weather as good as it has been since we got to Pohnpei. So it was off to Pakin Atoll for a day's fishing as we can only get there about four months of the year due to the rough winter weather. Jigging, casting and trolling were on the cards. Unfortunately the jigging and casting didn't produce much to talk about so we went for a troll around the atoll. A couple of laps produced seven wahoo, four barracuda, seven skip-jack tuna and a couple of fat rainbow runner.

The first wahoo joined us after about 10 minutes of trolling. They are real speed demons and go very hard when first hooked.
I think this was number six. This lure caught the four biggest fish.

Waldemar with a very welcome rainbow runner. Possibly the best eating fish in the ocean.

A nice fat wahoo to end the day. What started out as a dissapointing day due to no fish casting or on jig ended with the freezers full of wahoo. Lucky because we were down to one small reef fish in the freezer. I don't think I could bring myself to buy fish here; that would be too embarrassing.
