09 - Quick Morning Fish

The winter weather (we are opposite to Aust) is nearly upon us so that means the seas will once again turn rough and uncomfortable. This morning was glassy so Allois (owner of the local surf club) and I headed out for three hour casting session that will be impossible to do over the next six months or so.

First cast. Popper hit the water and I had only turned the handle half a turn and bang. A nice little red bass. Was this going to be the day that you dream about as a fisherman? Surely it can't be this easy?
About 50 casts later this little blue-fin trevally was hooked up.

We decided to do some casting inside one of the passes in the reef. I noticed that we were drifting over a drop-off so I changed to a jig and pretty much picked up this nice coral trout straight away. A great start to the weekend, then it was home to rescue the kids from Nic, or was it the other way around???????
