A short notice visit to catch up with Nana C saw us take a day out and visit Australia Zoo. Steve Irwin aka The Crocodile Hunter and his team have done an exceptional job, with all the animals having massive enclosures to roam about in.
Out the front and ready to explore.
Jaxon is ready to be a 'crocodile hunter'. Indi is still a little unsure.
This is a little more Indi's speed.
Heaps of critters as soon as walk in the front gate is a great way to kick off the day.
Keep your fingers away from the pretty bird.
An unlucky resident on a Florida golf course.
There was heaps of interactive things to do. Jaxon was pretty happy with feeding an elephant.
Indi was happy to hand the food to Mummy to do the job.
Madagascar Land at the Australia Zoo will be opening in 2013 some time. The animals are already arriving.
It's a little smaller than the San Diego Safari Park but this 'Africa Land' was pretty good. You could get a whole lot closer to the animals.
Nic's favourite - the giraffe.
Rhinos have to be one of the coolest animals on the planet.
Lunch time.
They can be 'normal' some times.
1130 saw us watching the Bindi Irwin show.
She has grown up a lot from the DVDs we have.
Bob Irwin learning the art of crocodile feeding.
Bindi is a little more advanced.
Everywhere throughout the zoo are photo opportunities.
Kids and cameras. They start learning early these days.
No Indi we aren't lot.... You look at the map and tell us where we are.
Cute and cuddly, until you try to pick it up.
Iconic.
Anyone remember the show 'A Country Practise'.
The Australia Zoo is set in the scrubland inland from the Sunshine Coast. The scrub turkeys seem to like the environment and have moved in.
The even have a Bengal Tiger enclosure. They have a tiger show each day which turns out to be part of their exercise program.
Even the big kittys like a drink of milk.
One lucky boy, this kid has done some much and he isn't even six.
Daddy and the Muffin.
They had a huge walkthrough enclosure with very tame kangaroos.
You couldn't do this where I grew up.
A kangaroo doing what it does best.
Another walkthrough enclosure saw us face-to-face with a blue-winged kookaburra.
There is speculation that there could still be crocodiles this big in Northern Australia. At over seven metres I'll be happy to not see one in the wild.
A short play in the kids' play park before heading home.
An awesome tribute statue.
Australia Zoo is certainly a 'must do' if you get up to the Brisbane area.
