Working out the camera

Just before we left we bought a new camera. With the camera we also got access to an on-line learning package to help us take better pictures. Well I finally logged into the site and learnt a little bit that will hopefully mean the quality of the photos improve with time and practice. Nic is currently in Guam for a bit of R&R so I'm on leave looking after the kids and practicing with camera.

There is a 'undercar wash' built into the compound driveway. The kids love riding through it; a fun way to cool off. Caught a great rainbow in this photo.

In the garden we have a pineapple plant that has recently decided to bare fruit. I didn't realise pineapples were so colourful.

Just one of the many flower varieties we have in the compound.

Learning how to use the 'macro' function can be pretty cool. Well I think so anyway.

The 'portrait' and 'macro' function combined.

It's all about perspective.

On to the action shots. I took about 30 photos to get one with the ball in focus. Thank God for digital cameras.

A pretty good photo of the kids.

Jaxon doesn't do too bad as a camera model.

Playing with the aperture settings; letting more light in for this shot.

Our chilli bush provides a good 'contrast' of colours.

I couldn't get one I was happy with here just yet, but this is the best of the ones I took.

Sorry if you're not into 'artie-fartie' photos, but practise make perfect, and I need the practise.

20th Nov - Buswiser Fishing Tournament

Saturday saw Scott in the annual Budwiser sponsored fishing tournament. Without a doubt the wettest day since we arrived. That didn't stop the boys though. It was a catch five tournament with marlin, dolphinfish, wahoo, yellowfin tuna and skipjack tuna being the targets. The boys ended up with four of the five (unfortunately no marlin yet again).

Scott with what is now his best dolphin fish at 21 pounds 2 ounces.

More fish than this were caught but this was the four that made the entries for the tournament.

Number one Steve, number one...... The boys ended up winning the tournament as they were the only boat to catch four of the five species, with five other boats getting three. This skipjack tuna was labelled the $600 fish as it was caught five minutes before heading back for the weigh-in. $600 for first place with another $100 for the biggest dolphinfish. Not a bad days fishing after all but I'm sure everyone slept well after all the shivering in the rain during the day.

18 Nov Narlap Resort

Scott took a day off of work today and we took Nana and Granddad to Narlap Beach Resort. Not a resort by 1st World standards but to be honest it was a great day. Very relaxing just kicking back on the beach and going for the occasional snorkel to cool off.

Once we arrived by boat we loaded all the stuff onto a trolley for a walk around the lagoon to our favourite little beach. Notice the kids are considered part of the luggage at this stage, otherwise we would still be there.....
See they can be nice to each other......

A quick bite to eat before going for a snorkel with Dad.

Nic made the most of it. It was very enjoyable just relaxing and reading a magazine while the incoming tide lapped at her feet.

Nana and Granddad heading out for a snorkel.

Once Nana and Granddad made sure there were no sharks it was time for Scott and Jaxon to check out the fish and corals.

Indi was a little concerned about the boys heading out into the deep stuff.

It's great having Daddy home every day. A big change from 2008/2009 and the exact reason we came to Pohnpei.

Nana and Granddad with the 'tourist' photo to validate their stories.

Before heading back to the main land we had a crack at the water slide. Jaxon and Scott were first cab off the rank.

A good amount of speed is built up during the short decent.

Indi was next and it she assured Daddy that she was up for it.

Nic had a go as well and enjoyed the final swim to cool off.

Not a bad family photo to finish the day.

Indi's Birthday

Indi turned the big 2 on Sunday. So on Saturday we had a small gathering of friends to help us celebrate. Nic and Chris, with some help from Heather, put together a great spread of food. Nic was very organised and had heaps of games planned to keep the kids busy. Ecky took some great pics so below is a combo of our pics to show you how the day went. Also a big thanks to Marty, Penny, Josh, Eleanor and Matthew and the Quirkes for your phone calls.

Zara, Jonah and Joshie from House 3 in the Compound got the morning rolling with a great sign they did up. The sign has since moved up into the house and is proudly hanging in the lounge room. We might even save it for next year.
As the people arrived so did their very generous presents. Blackboards are great, we just have to get Indi to draw with the chalk instead of eating it.

Jaxon, aka Superboy, loved pass the parcel. Nic had loaded a small something in between each layer so everyone got a lolly to keep them interested. Good thinking Mum.

Pass the parcel was a big hit with everyone.

Next came musical chairs.

It didn't matter to Indi that she went out of the game early. It was her new birthday present chair and she was going to sit in it every time the music stopped.

Scott had pegged out the tarps for a slip and slide just before every one starting arriving. After musical chairs it was time to get wet. Indi made sure all was in order before we were allowed to start.

Of course she had to christen it first.

Jaxon at speed. If only the photo was taken half a second later as he slid off the end and into the mud.
Indi needed a bit of extra weight from Daddy to get the speed up enough to slide.

Maggie showing off her style of sliding.

Jonah, Zeeman and Lucas in full flight.

Thanks Heather for the puff pastry. Nic and Chris whipped up some great sausage rolls for lunch.

Yummy fruit kababs, with a marshmellow, were a huge hit.

No kids birthday party is complete without vegemite sandwiches.

Now that's a birthday cake. Great job Nana.

It's my birthday ball and you just try and take it off of me. I dare ya.....

Nic thought it would be a great idea if I sat on a chair and let all the kids throw waterballoons at me. I didn't mind the idea, 'why not' I thought. That was until they starting bouncing off of me and not breaking. Out came the tennis racket to protect the delicate areas.

Nana thought that she would have a go so it was appropriate to catch it and throw in her general direction.
Five at once is pretty hard to defend against.
All in all it was a great day. A job well done by all and most importantly Indi had a great time and smiled all day long.

8th Nov - Sand Island and Nan Madol

The 8th was a public holiday so we took Nana and Granddad for a boat ride to Sand Island and the ancient ruins of Nan Madol. The tide was a little low when we left making it impossible to get into Sand Island and then the ruins straight away so we stopped at a little island for some lunch and a quick snorkel on the way.

You'll have to excuse the broken branch in the foreground. It was a little difficult to find a suitable spot to use the 'time lapse' photo option.

Jaxon never keeps still for long so after a quick feed it was off to do some exploring.

We all enjoyed a quick snorkel then it was back into the boat and off to Sand Island.
Like I said the tide has to be high enough to get into Sand Island. Jaxon was making sure we didn't collect the reef on the way through.

Jaxon is finally wearing a mask comfortably in the pool so it was time to try him out in the ocean. He loves it, not quite there with the snorkel but he loves seeing all the fish and coral.

Sand Island. There isn't any sand on the main island on Pohnpei so it was nice to sit and relax on the beach. Nic and Chris made sure there was heaps to drink and eat.

It was one great big sand pit to Indi.

After Sand Island it was off to Nan Madol. What should be world heritage listed currently only costs $3 and 50cents for the kids. These young girls are related to the local village chief who has the right to charge the entry fee.

We've been here once before but it was just as impressive the second time around.

Some of the gaps in the walls are the perfect height for Indi and Jaxon.

Luckily Nic has been going to the gym and has remained flexible.

What can I say here that won't get me into trouble.................

Solitary Confinement. I'm sure this where Peter and Chris wanted me to be after all my joking around.

Not a bad family portrait. Bloody kids never sit still do they.
